About artist Hsiao Fu-Jung (蕭芙蓉): Born in Yilan, Hsiao Fu-Jung graduated from the Taiwan Taipei Normal School for Girls (today’s University of Taipei) then became a schoolteacher in Taoyuan in 1961. Five years later, she left the position and founded a children’s art school and the Chun-Yu (spring rain in Mandarin) School. In her successful 40-year career, she even opened a tea house, a pottery studio, and the first art gallery in Taoyuan, which was built before the Taoyuan County Culture Center, to deepen and popularize local art education. Over the 50 years, Hsiao never stopped creating diverse artworks. She often holds solo and group exhibitions, and her works have attracted art lovers all over Taiwan. Her works can be seen in Taipei’s or Taoyuan’s art centers, including the Nan Gallery, the Chung-Ming Gallery and the Cathay Gallery. This time, we invite you to Chilin to appreciate the works she has brought back to Yilan.
